Sherman Hemsley, 'Jeffersons' Star, Dies at 74

The actor was found in his home in El Paso, Texas.
 Sherman Hemsleybest known for his starring turn in the sitcom The Jeffersons, has passed away, TMZ reports.
 
Hemsley, who was 74, was found in his El Paso, Texas home; no cause of death is yet known. He was unmarried, and had no children.

Hemsley gained national attention when he joined the Norman Lear show All in the Family in 1973; after two seasons, he became the star of his own spin-off, The Jeffersons, in which he co-starred withIsabel Sanford. Over the course of 11 seasons as George Jefferson, Hemsleystarred in 253 episodes.

He would later go on to star in the show Amen, and later, voice a character in Dinosaurs the movie.
