2 Chainz was taken into custody for possessing what was considered a criminal weapon.

2 Chainz -- real name Tauheed Epps (who also goes by the name Tity Boi) -- was entering the Delta terminal to fly to a show in North Carolina ... when the TSA discovered brass knuckles in his bag.

2 Chainz was arrested earlier today at a New York City airport for possessing brass knuckles.

According to reports, Tity Boi had the brass knuckles in his carry-on bag at LaGuardia Airport. He was entering the Delta terminal to fly to North Carolina for a performance, when the TSA discovered the weapon in his bag.

Police were called to the airport and 2 Chainz was taken into custody for misdemeanor possession of a criminal weapon. He is still in police custody, but his rep says that his team is "handling the situation."
